Life Skills Academy
The Individual with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) ensures free appropriate public education (FAPE) in the least restrictive environment (LRE) for students with disabilities. In support of IDEA, our LIfe Skills Academy is committed to promoting a caring and supportive environment for all students. Students in the Life Skills Academy thrive in their ABILITIES and have the opportunity to be successful academically and socially.
While a part of the Life Skills Academy, students will be exposed to a curriculum that supports students in literacy, math, science, and social studies as well as learning self-awareness, self-advocacy, and adaptive skills that will help them to be successful during and after high school. Students in the Life Skills Academy, depending on their abilities and readiness, can be served until graduation or their 22nd birthday.
The Life Skills Academy has opportunities for students to have real life experiences within their curriculum. Students participate in community based instruction, vocational training, Affective Skills, Study Skills and also participate in vocational training in our school’s Coffee Shop and within the school supporting the cafeteria, media center, etc.
